Should 'level' based on number of hours played be removed?
Level system
Completely removing the 'level' system (the one that almost all RP servers have).. What about it?
Ofcourse if you do your job regularly and a lot too, you will be getting more pay, but why base it on the number of hours that one plays? Just do your job very well, and you will be rewarded accordingly.
I feel that would be good, and will remove the need for any wipe later when everyone has very high 'levels'.
What do you all think?
Supporting your choice with an explanation will be even better.

Re: Level system
Well I never liked the level system.
These are my reasons:
First of all, most "roleplayers" playing to obtain levels.
This will lead that the server looks more like a RPG then a RP game.
I have to say that the level system will attract people to play longer and longer because they want to level up so badly.
I think that levels in differend jobs will be better.
Like you said: Ofcourse if you do your job regularly and a lot too, you will be getting more pay
Lets say carjacker:
If you steal 25 cars you will go from level 1 to level 2. First you earned 1250 for a stolen car and now you will receive 1750. This was just an example. So I think its better to implend a level system in jobs instead in players. But as I said. Its hard to hold players in the server if you dont have a level system. Most of the time they think, what the fuck I am doing here. Also in LS-RP. Now everyone knows that the server will be restarted. No one plays because they think. Why would we still play... We lose our levels and money...
So it has good sides and bad sides.

Re: Level system
I actually agree partially.
I think that leveling up is important. As Xyth is saying, people are looking forward toward acheiving some goal, leveling up is usually that goal.
So I think that we should keep the leveling up but make it different.
It should not be based on time. Maybe more on achievments?
Possible achievments:
- Based on money (level 2 costs 1000$, level 3 costs 2000$,etc)
- Based on experience (sounds like an RPG but maybe jobs gives you experience, experience gives you leveling)
- Based on specific tasks? (Once per week, you'd have a specific task given to you by some leader that would make you lvl up)
The alternative would be to remove the leveling system and add something else as counterpart. I don't have specific ideas but something that will keep players playing

Re: Level system
Yeah well, the majority of the people plays to be better than the other player.. Most compare based on 'levels'.
But I like this idea more.. Jobs give you experience.. you can get promoted in your job, to make more money. We can have many 'levels' of the job that you can be promoted to. If you are at a higher level ( if you are more experienced in that job) you will be payed more.
Let's discuss on this idea, ofcourse other ideas are still welcome too.
Should experience be carried over when the player changes job? That won't make much sense then :S

Re: Level system
Xyth idea is pretty good,it would be like jobs level?,Like you could level up some jobs but i wouldnt call it level up, it would be like how much experience you have on that type of work and if you change of job you could keep your experience of the job you had...
And do something like /jobsexp, then something like this pops up.
Example:
Carjacker Experience: 2
Lawyer Experience: 3
Gun Dealer Experience: 1

Carjacker Experience: 2

But the level would decay with time?
So if you don't do a carjacker job for let's say 1 week, you lose 1 level?

Re: Level system
- Based on money (level 2 costs 1000$, level 3 costs 2000$,etc)
I think this is the best option. This way you can show the people you got alot of money, and that your probably important in Los Santos. This way people rather work for their money instead fucking around.
But lets say
level 2: 10000
level 3: 30000
level 4: 50000
level 5: 70000
level 6: 90000
level 7: 110000
level 8: 130000
level 9: 150000
This way it doesn't matter how long you play. Its about how much you work. Also people wont play for hours but they play for money. And most of the jobs is roleplay an important part...
What do you think about this?
PS: Not sure about the economy of the server so the level up prices can be changed. But it also need to be a moneysinker

Thanks, but what do you think its gonna be. I think my idea would be the best for LS City server
1st: Its differend then the rest
2nd: We still can level up so people have a reason to play on the server
3rd: Its a good money sinker

Re: Level system
Well, the majority wants to show to other players that they are richer / better / .. so I guess we will have a level system.
So imo, we can have levels which can be bought ( irrespective of the time played ), but that brings another question to my mind.
Should these 'levels' which are rather ooc, have some effects in-game? Should higher levels have some advantages over lower levels?

x Paycheck will no longer magically jump into your pocket every hour.
Well we have paychecks so we can increase them or something? And we should need a place where you can get your paycheck. Like you said, it wont magically jump into your pocket. Maybe inside the cityhall?
And I think levels are required to buy houses and businesses, but I cant think about more advantages, I will think about it.

Re: Level system
Well, paycheck jumping to the bank account instead of your hand is quite realistic. Or maybe it's a check that has to be encashed?
I very strongly feel, levels should not increase paycheck. Job experience and your status/level in the job that you do, will fetch you more money. I insist that we don't make higher level players get heavier paychecks.

Then we could make houses and businesses have a required level. I think this would make people stay on hour server. Same as LS-RP, everyone is playing so damn much to buy a house

Re: Level system
- Houses and business requires a certain level
- Some clubs/restaurants are level dependant (same as 18 yrs and more in RL)
- Maybe OOC chat is locked for lvl 1/2 (depending on how long it takes to level)
- Some IG events reserved to certain levels?
- Some guns are reserved to certain levels (experience?)
- Only at certain levels can players stop threating me like a God and bringing me goods
- It takes a certain level to use the bank and get interest?
- It takes a certain level to give money to another player?

There are events to make the gameplay more fun and why would you not allow people with a level under ... . Its discrimination

In real life you could give money to which ever you want. But we can put a certain level to send money to a player from bank to bank.

I really like this one. I think we should be able to make a bank account, if your new you dont have one yet. Maybe it will cost some money? Useing a bank should be able wenn you reached level 3?
Benefits of having a bank account:
You get intrest
You can send people money while not being near them, transfer money with useing your bank account.

Re: Level system
About the OOC.
For the very brief moments I played on other servers, most OOC spam came from newbies who had no clue what they are doing.
OOC chat should not be used as a tutorial. It doesnt make sense and it's annoying.
Tutorials should be on the site/forum or at worse, you could have a starting area where all newcomers would spawn and a trainer would show them the basic commands.
The trainer could be NPC

Well afcourse they need to read the rules on this server before they play. They also have to read what rp means and what the difference is between ooc and ic. Afcourse they have some small qeustions about jobs or houses. I dont mind answering them in ooc, the only thing in ooc which annoys me is those people who spam with: lol, rofl, lmao, haha , omg
All those things. Let me tell you an example.
I am new in the server and I start playing, I know everything about rp, ooc, ic etc etc. But I have a qeustion where the cityhall is... Ok what should I do? Searching it on the forums or you just type /o Could someone tell me where the City Hall is... Or I will pm an admin. Maybe he is busy or he is pissed. /kick (id) dont pm me! Its just not a good idea to put a level requirment on the ooc chat. We want to help eachother and thats why there is ooc, and not to talk about jennifer lopez.

OOC should be available for everyone.
And this idea of making a bank account first.. Nice idea. Develop it and post it in suggestions.
Edit : And maybe the person who voted 'No' should give us a reason too
